Bright and Beyond activities help children to explore
and learn about themselves and their environment through
play. Occupational Therapists who work with children
with special needs, such as language and speech impairments,
autism, cerebral palsy, and Down’s syndrome,
have expressed that the variety and adaptability of
our activities have been particularly beneficial for
these children.
Bright and Beyond activities are multi-sensory, interactive,
and highly adaptable to the child’s abilities – aspects
that set the stage for learning, social growth, and
a sense of achievement. Allowing a flexible definition
of success helps avoid the frustrations that can aggravate
a child’s sense of social isolation.
It’s a given that all children love to play,
especially with a loving parent or caregiver; setting
overarching goals in play is not necessary. A child's
natural curiosity and exploration during these activities
will help create the building blocks for adaptive development
in all areas of his or her life.
